OAJ SIDEBAR

JANUARY 4, 2018

Newspaper supports removing caps for rape victims
After reporting that legislation initiated by OAJ to exclude victims of rape and sexual assault from caps on non-economic damages is stalled in a House committee, the Columbus Dispatch wrote an editorial supporting the bill.  OAJ will use the Dispatch coverage to persuade the House to act.

Reed departs Court of Claims
Mark Reed steps down as Clerk of the Court of Claims tomorrow, where he has served with distinction since 2011.  OAJ previously recognized his outstanding service, citing the elimination of backlogged cases and the streamlining of the Court’s processes.  OAJ thanks Mr. Reed for his service and wishes him well.  Daniel Borchert, deputy clerk, will serve as the interim clerk until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Board issues new ethics guides
The Board of Professional Conduct has issued two new ethics guidelines.  One is designed to assist attorneys who change law firms, and the second addresses the transition from the practice of law to serving on the bench and includes details on recusals.
